Lab Consulting Services, LLC was founded by Tom Thorpe to provide
water testing, water quality consulting and organization development
services to chemical analysis laboratories.
Tom has a Ph.D. from the University
of Illinois in chemical analysis specializing in the environmental
chemistry of toxic metals in water. He also has over 20 years of
experience in research and development as an analytical scientist
and analytical laboratory manager with Procter & Gamble Company.
He is a Colorado Certified Operator
for Water Distribution [Level 1]
and Water Treatment [Class C].
Currently he is the Operator-In-Charge of eight community, non-community and private water systems in Southwest Colorado.
Tom's technical and organizational
leadership contributed to successful development and delivery of the
product chemistry, manufacturing technology and analytical
measurement science for soaps and detergents, cosmetics, personal
care products, paper & non-woven materials, industrial fatty
chemicals, edible fats and oils. While at Procter & Gamble, he
managed 8 different laboratories that made significant contributions
to the development of numerous products. These laboratories also
developed, installed and troubleshot chemical and physical test
methods around the world resulting in millions of dollars in savings
by assuring product shipments, rapid start-up of new product
production, assurance of product safety and quality, correction of
production problems and meeting the requirements of government
regulations. He is an experienced leader of testing programs to
supply analytical methods and results for submissions to U.S.
government agencies like the Food & Drug Administration.
Tom was a professional recruiter of
scientists from laboratory analysts to Ph.D. Chemists. He has many
years of teaching experience as a national problem solving
instructor, and as a faculty member at Miami University (Ohio) &
Towson University (Towson, MD). He is the author or co-author of 13
publications in internationally recognized journals and books; he
has delivered 53 presentations or invited seminars at national
chemistry conferences, colleges and universities.
